Mono in action
-
Interchangeable Letters
We knew that inevitably someone was going to substitute an "M" for a "W". So we just preempted that awkwardness and designed certain characters to be used interchangeably for added typesetting flexibility.
-
Creative Typesetting
Since Mono is monospaced both horizontally and vertically, you can set type in non-linear ways. Think outside the baseline, inside the grid.
-
Multiple Language Support
Contains diacritics and special characters for French, Spanish, Italian, German, and Portuguese. HINT: If you don't speak a language with fancy ornaments, use them for illustration purposes.
-
Emoticons
In ancient times, before emojis, primitive humans used regular punctuation and characters to express emotions via text. Mono characters are designed to be used for illustration as well as their semantic meaning.
About the designer
Otherwhere Collective
Mono was designed in collaboration with Andrew Bellamy, a type designer and creative director who has worked with clients ranging from small cultural projects to some of the world’s biggest brands. Along the way he turned upside down and landed in Miami. You’ve probably encountered some of his fonts before, but Prixel Mono is the first one you can physically drop on the floor. Apparently he doesn't smile in photos, but he's lovely, honest.
